Deadly Sexy by Beverly Jenkins Rating 5

Beverly Jenkins takes us on a fun ride of the inside workings of the sports world not only does she offer the glitz and glamour but she takes us on the business side where things just get downright nasty.

JT Blake is Los Angeles’ toughest and sexiest sports agent. Lady B as she’s called is able to negotiate contracts, quote players’ stats, play a mean game of Madden football and keep her sometime, overprotective, multimillion dollar, clients in line without breaking a sweat. Every man who has encounter her has been in awe of her and has tried to win the hand of Lady B but no one has been able to match wits with her until she meets Reese Anthony.
While driving an eighteen-wheeler on California’s I-5 to San Francisco, Reese stops to help what appeared to be a damsel in distress. He quickly learned that not only was she beautiful but she was also very knowledgeable of sports and cars. Reese offered JT a ride back to Oakland and the sparks immediately began to ignite. However, there was more to Reese then he let on. He was not just your average truck driver. He was actually an ex-Detroit vice cop turned attorney, who is also the a major factor of his father’s trucking company but just recently Reese has landed a position as the head investigator for one of the leagues investigation  team. Little did he know, he would also have to protect JT as well?

As always Beverly Jenkins brings it when she wrote this. As an avid Jenkins fan, I can defiantly say I love how she ties history into all her pieces and keeps everything realistic. Kudos Mrs. Jenkins.

AND MISTRESS MAKES THREE RATING 4

And A Mistress Makes Three

Francis Ray

Rating 4

Francis Ray has created a loving yet touching story about how far love will go to make people realize their needs for one another.

Gina Rawlings is the wife that most men would die for she never questions her husband about his coming or goings and always believes in him when he does not give reasons for things he does.  She takes care of her home and put everyone before herself.  When he walks away to go on to share his life with a better woman as he comes to bring to her attention she is left to pick up the pieces.  With two children, no support from her husband and a business that has seen better days Gina finds herself trying to hold on to her mental state.

Max Broussard is taking the dream that his wife had, making it a reality, and yet still dealing with the fact that she is gone.  With the opening of Journey’s End the Bed & Breakfast that his wife wanted.  When Gina goes to visit the B&B to see if it were the type of place she would recommend she finds herself looking at it with a potential eye but knowing it needs work but after a misplay of words and her children repeating her words she finds herself embarrassed and angered with them and herself.  Max is very gentle to the eye and Gina realizes that but soon finds herself at odds with her body because she feels that she has gained excessively much weight and does not find herself appealing.  However when Max starts to make moves on her they find their selves in a give in and take relationship because Max isn’t sure how to gentle push his way into her life.

As Gina & Max spend more time together Gina begins to realize she deserve happiness and decides to go for it but not before her ex has a accident which leaves him back in her home.  Her children are hopefully that their parents are going to work it out, Max feels at odds because he knows the children want their family but thinks Gina deserves better and Gina is livid because her ex is using the children against her to get his way.  However, what Robert (Gina’s ex) didn’t expect was for his mistress husband to comfort them leading to the final draw and the breaker that caused his children to see the real him.

Celeste de le Vega is an interior designer that many would call a heart breaker.  She has been engaged three times but none of these  men have made her heart stop and start again and make her want to take the walk of forever but when she meets Alec Dunlap she realizes he may be the one to make the push.  Alec is a police officer that is having difficulty doing the job he loves because he is feeling guilty about shooting a man.  Alec is at his brother’s house building him and his new wife a gazebo while they are on their honeymoon.  Celeste is at his brother’s house redecorating the couple’s bedroom.  This causes Alec and Celeste to cross paths constantly.  Alec is trying to fight the attraction between them but Celeste is trying everything in her power to ignite the fire.  When Celeste is taken hostage, Alec has to deal with his feelings and bring them to the table with Celeste.

And A Mistress Makes Three was not what I expected I totally love how Francis took each of her characters and made them stand out as individuals before bringing them into their unique places within the book.  This book is great as a standalone but I get the feeling I am going back to look at the Invincible Women.  As a Charleston native, I would say that Francis hit this on the dime and made everything visually stimulating.  KUDOS to Ray for doing it again.

Quade’s Babies by Brenda Jackson

NOT WORTH YOUR TIME OR MONEY

NOT WORTH YOUR TIME OR MONEY

Quade’s Babies

Brenda Jackson

Rating 2

Disappointment is not even a good enough description…

Brenda Jackson writes the fourteenth book of the Westmoreland’s’ series. While I was a diehard fan in the beginning when she introduced Delany and her brothers Mrs. Jackson has slowly but surely disappointed me with the cousins.

In this particular book we remember when Quade was in Montana with his family and he saw the picture of the enchanted beauty Cheyenne who he had a one night affair with in Egypt while on business and he realizes she’s pregnant rather she’s probably due any day now. Well what we later learn is that Cheyenne is none other than Cheyenne Steele of the Steele family from the Kimami Steele’s. Remember her cousins Chance, Donovan, Morgan, and Sebastian the male cousins and then there is Taylor and Vanessa her sisters’. Yeah that crew.

Quade Westmoreland was surprise when he finds out he’s a father but not just a father but a father to the second set of Westmoreland triplets but what he wasn’t prepared for was their mother and her resistance to wanting to do what he considered right in his eyes for her and the babies. Cheyenne Steele had grown up being told what to do and how to do it so when she finds herself pregnant with her mystery man’s triplets she decides that she’s going to do things her way with her babies and no one can say anything to change her mind. Well almost no one.

Cheyenne thought she would never see Quade again but when he shows up inquiring about her babies she has no choice but to tell him what he wants to know but she never expected the situation to become a lifetime situation.

Brenda Jackson has continue to give us great romantic stories however I believe it has gotten to the point that Mrs. Jackson has really forgotten that writing is about the quality of the book instead of the quantity of the book. I really hope to see Mrs. Jackson return with a book that can hold to the standards of quality.

The Fight of His Life

*Certified Classic*

LOVE T.K.O is a refreshing novel that reminds us of what love is really about. Pamela Yaye does it again bringing two individuals from different world into a blissful relationship.

Dr Yasmin Ohaji is a South African beauty who is a popular marriage therapist who has worked her self into a place that romance does not fit into her life but when she meets Rashawn Bishop after he came to her rescue she finds herself fighting the temptations that he presents. Rashawn Bishop is an up and coming boxer in Miami when he comes across Yasmin he sense that she is a woman that he wants in his life. When a group of young men steps to her improperly, he steps in and saves her from having to become unruly. After taking time to really get to know her he finds himself unable to focus because he wants her.

The couple run into some bumps in the road when assumptions are made instead of talked about but when Yasmin relives a part of her past she begins to react in a manner that sends Rashawn into his corner and he does what any man would do he comes out fighting. The relationship takes a rocky turn but as always Pamela finds a way to conclude the relationship with happiness.

Pamela Yaye had me rooting for Rashawn from the beginning of the book as well as wanting to see Yasmin happy. She brings back the idea of what a relationship should really be about and how a man should treat a woman. LOVE T.K.O is defiantly one of my top reads this year.

Finding Love Again

SECOND CHANCE, BABY is a heartfelt novel that explores the joys, heartaches, and responsibilities of love. A.C. Arthur adds her personal flair to the Braddrock’s: Secret Son continuity.

Tyson Braddrock was the middle child to Congressman Harmon Braddrock and always felt he needed to prove himself to his father, siblings, as well as his wife. When he allows work to overpower his marriage Felicia Braddrock, his college sweetheart does the only thing she knew she left him.

Felicia Braddrock knew that her husband loved her however; he was never around to show in love so with the sheer will power she did the only things she knew she left him. When Felicia finds herself pregnant, she is at war for a way to fix the situation with Ty.

A.C. Arthur shows how a family stands unity in the best and worst times. SECOND CHANCE, BABY was a heartfelt read with just the right touch that only AC Arthur can present.

Paige realizes right away that she is not in love with Russell and in order for her to figure out what it is between her and her mother’s houseguest she has to get rid of Russell.

The Way You Love Me is a romantic women’s idea of what love is suppose to be. Francis does an excellent job reuniting characters from before to bringing in new characters without overpowering the stories.

SKIES THE LIMIT

BLUE SKIES was an exceptionally well-written military romance story not only was it witty but it was also one of those stories that you could remember. Ms. Byrd brings the blue skies to you with a little romance and a little competition between lovers.

Captain Sydney “Serious” Garnett is a military inbreed who learn the joy of flying from her father and when it became her time to enlist, she did it with pride not only pride but also she was the epitome of a solider and a pilot.

Lt. James Colton was what some would call cocky but a pilot with tricks that many would not attempt. When he finds himself face to face with a sienna beauty, he finds himself looking into the eyes of his own soul but of course, nothing comes easy.

Lt. Colton & Capt Garnett find their selves in competition for being named the finest pilot in a Special Operations program. When Colton finds himself at the end of Garnett’s antics he realizes that she’s not only his equal but she is also one of the best pilots in the US Air Force but also she’s younger than him as well as outrank him but it still won’t stop him from going after her. The two find their selves involved in a manner that no one would have ever thought but not before the minor secret, which Colton and the other males of the program could screw up his chances of a successful relationship.

When James finds himself having to go after Sydney in a war zone, he has his heart in his throat thinking the worse could have happened to the women he loves but not before he remembers, what made him loved her the way he did.

Ms. Byrd writes a story that shows true love at its best but also love when nothing can part the two not even an extended time of being apart.
